What is Independence Day?

.
Is it Wil Smith saving the planet from invading aliens from outer space? Is it partying at the beach, or picnicking in your own backyard? Is it fireworks?

Independence Day is celebrating our nation’s freedom. It began 233 years ago today in Philadelphia when 56 brave men (including our own Thomas Heyward, who lived right up the road) signed a document that declared our country’s freedom to the world. Maintaining our freedom over these past two and a third centuries hasn’t been cheap; MANY have sacrificed dearly for it.

So, let’s celebrate freedom today. Thank God for the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, and for all who have defended our nation’s freedom, especially those who were killed or wounded in war. Thank God that He allows us to reap the benefits of this great nation. God bless the USA.
